Biodiversity – Finding Solutions in Nature & Our Community

Join Sustainable Works virtually to engage with experts and learn about biodiversity in Santa Monica.
Learn about the Ishihara Park Learning Garden from Teague Weybright, City of Santa Monica Community Gardens Program Coordinator. Learn about the Communal Format of the garden and how it differs from individual plots, when you can volunteer and what that entails, tours, including Fruit Tree Orchard, the Food Donation Program, the Community Composting Program and Workshops and Tour Opportunities with groups/school/etc.
Learn about owls and owl boxes and the city’s efforts to bring more of these beautiful birds into our community and the benefits of having them here from Wild Birds Unlimited of Santa Monica owner Julie Hanson.
And learn about the many benefits of beekeeping from Eli Lichter-Marck, owner of Eli’s Bees. Bees are amazing creatures who pollinate 80% of the world’s plants including 90 different food crops. They should be thanked for 1 out of every 3 or 4 bites of food you eat. Eli’s Bees is always looking for new locations to keep hives. Having bees on your property will bring new life to your garden.
