Refillery LA Truck & Composting Demo
March 25 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm PDT
New Time! 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm (with composting demo 3:00 – 4:00 pm)
Reduce single use plastic pollution by refilling your household products at Refillery LA’s mobile refill station offering eco-friendly soaps, detergents, personal care products, pet shampoo and more. Bring your own clean and dry container or purchase one at the mobile refill truck. Products are sold by the ounce, less the weight of the container.
Resilient Palisades has arranged for the Refillery LA Truck to come to the same location as the weekly Thursday farmer’s market – about 1/2 mile up Temescal from PCH and about 0.3 mile south of Bowdoin Street on the east side of the road.
To learn more, visit the Refillery LA website, where you will find a description of how the service works, and a list of products offered.
Resilient Palisades’ team member Valeria Serna will demonstrate two methods of compost: Vermacompost and Veganic Compost. Vermicompost involves feeding worms food scraps, which provide worm castings (worm poop), a beneficial soil amendment. Veganic compost is very much like traditional composting, yet no animal by-products are used (manure). Both recycle food waste diverting it from landfills, reducing methane ( CH4), a Green House Gas 84x more noxious than Co2.
Valeria, a native Palisadian class 01, is now working and living in the Palisades since 2012. She has over seven years of compost experience with five 50 gallon compost boxes producing compost for properties she manages. Valeria has over seven years of environmental activism under her belt, volunteering with organizations such as Green Peace, Sea Sheperd, Sustainable Works, and Women In Green Forum. In 2017, she became certified as a Recycling and Resource Management specialist from Santa Monica College and in 2018 took part in Al Gores Climate Reality training in Los Angeles.
